Memorial piece for my girl Iris... finished two days shy of the two years since shes passed from this world...

There is only one place to bury a dog.
If you bury him in this spot, he will come to you when you call,
come to you over the grim dim frontier of death,
and down the well-remembered path and to your side again.

And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel, they shall not growl at him,
nor resent his coming, for he belongs there.

People may scoff at you, who see not the lightness blade of grass bent by his footfall,
who hear no whimper, people who have never really had a dog.
Smile at them, for you shall know something which is hidden from them.
and which is well worth knowing.

The best place to bury a dog, is in the heart of his master.
-Ben Hur Lampman -1925

What a beautiful picture, and a beautiful poem. I know full well the best place to bury a dog is in the heart of its master, as I've had 5 dogs in my life, including the one I have now. The other 4 I still love though they are gone.

Glad to see another owner who still has a full heart for their friend who has passed even years ago.

Every end of a time is another begun. You understand, mechanical hands are the ruler of everything, ah~ the ruler of everything, ah~, I'm the ruler of everything, in the end.

Thank you for the comment... yes, she is still near and dear to my heart. Her mother is gone now too, and her sister... they all still reside deep within.
